Flint Hill Middle School is the newest middle school in the Fort Mill School District that will serve up to 1,200 students with initial enrollment of roughly 1,000 students. Located at 360 Gold Hill Road Fort Mill, South Carolina the school will alleviate overcrowding at nearby Fort Mill and Pleasant Knoll Middle Schools due to the growth of the Fort Mill area.
Built around a central courtyard the school will have a three-story student focused design with each grade having its own level or “neighborhood”.
6th Grade located on the ground floor. Students have easy access to classrooms, athletic facilities, and the cafeteria. This placement helps younger students adjust in the transition from elementary school.
7th Grade spaces that connect to an open atrium with internal stairs. This layout will create a strong sense of grade identity and encourages interaction between students.
8th Grade has direct access to enrichment and athletic areas. Spaces for the eighth graders support student autonomy and circulation without overlap with younger grades.
Classrooms will be built around multifunctional collaboration zones with breakout alcoves throughout corridors for guided or independent learning. There are also large co-teaching classrooms to help provide team based teaching approaches.
The Flint Hill Red Foxes will be the first school to sport burgundy and black as well as the first school to have the Red Fox as the school mascot. They will compete in the Fort Mill Athletic Conference (FMAC) with the six other middle schools along with Indian Land Middle School. The school looks to field all sports in its first full year of operation opening with all three grade levels.
Sean Smith, the current athletic director at Fort Mill MS in Fort Mill, has been named the first athletic director with the school opening to students in August 2026.
