Spring Sports Recap

The following district-wide information has been gathered through research and the schools submitted responses. If there is anything missing or that needs editing, please contact support@nasathletics.com. Thank you for your help!

Baseball

Catawba Ridge wins the 4A Baseball State Championship beating North Myrtle Beach in Game 3 of the Championship series. (3-5, 4-1, 7-3).  Jackson Mullen was selected All-Region, All-State and SCSBA Player of the Year.  Jake McCoy was selected All-Region, and All-State by both the SCBCA and Diamond Prospects. Coach Stas Swerdzewski was named 4A Baseball Coach of the Year.  The Copperheads finished the season 29-7 and gave Catawba Ridge it’s 2nd state title, the first coming from the softball team just a day earlier!

Men's Lacrosse

Nation Ford’s men’s lacrosse team triumphed over Wando 13-10 to win their first ever 5A state championship and the school’s sixth championship title. It was a special win for the Falcons having come up short to Wando in last year’s 2022 matchup.  Nation Ford ran over opponents in the first three rounds scoring double digits versus Mauldin 18-8, Dorman 17-8, and JL Mann 12-7.
Fort Mill also earned a spot in the 5A playoffs scoring 11 goals to Dorman’s 15 in the 1st Round.

Women's Lacrosse

Fort Mill went deep into the Class 5A women’s Lacrosse Tournament outscoring TL Hanna 14-3 in the 1st Round and winning a high scoring game against Byrnes 16-13 in the 2nd Round. The Yellow Jackets played JL Mann in the semifinals coming up a couple goals short to the eventual championship contenders.  (10-7) 
Nation Ford also represented FMSD in the 5A Tournament with the highest scoring match in the playoffs, scoring 16 goals to Byrnes’ 19 in the 1st Round.

Catawba Ridge earned a spot in the Class 4A playoffs playing Christ Church Episcopal in the 1st Round.

Softball

Catawba Ridge wins the 4A State Championship beating South Florence in 2 games 7-6, 10-7 in the championship series.  Sarah Rocheleau was selected All-Region, All-State and SC Player of the Year.  Five Copperheads were selected Softball All Region including Sarah Rocheleau, Kendra Murray, Chloe Burger, Audrey Wilson, and Braylon Lawrence.   Coach Michael Kidd was named 4A Softball Coach of the Year.

In the 5A Softball Championships, Fort Mill outscored Hillcrest 5-4 in Game2 of the Upper District 3 playoffs. The Yellow Jackets faced Hillcrest again in Game 5 where their journey ended in a 3-1 loss. 
Nation Ford met eventual district champs Dorman in Game 2 of the Class 5A Upper District 1 playoffs and came up one run short versus TL Hanna in Game 4.

Men's Soccer

Fort Mill and Nation Ford men’s soccer teams represented FMSD in the SCHSL Class 5A Men’s Soccer Tournament.   Nation Ford advanced through the first two rounds holding both Byrnes and JL Mann to one goal each before falling to eventual championship contender, Clover in the 3rd round. 
Fort Mill outscored TL Hanna 5-1 before playing Hillcrest in the 2nd Round.  SCHSL 5A Bracket >>  

In the Class 4A Tournament, Catawba Ridge won a decisive match against South Aiken 5-0 after a first round bye.  The Copperheads dealt eventual 4A Champs, Riverside their closest game of the tournament holding them to three goals in the 3rd Round. (3-0) SCHSL 4A Bracket >>  

Women's Soccer

Fort Mill and Nation Ford women’s soccer teams represented FMSD in the SCHSL Class 5A Women’s Soccer Tournament.   Nation Ford shutout TL Hanna 2-0 and Dorman 1-0 in the first two rounds before falling to Mauldin in the 3rd round. 
Fort Mill shut out Boiling Springs 6-0 before falling short by one goal to JL Mann in the 2nd Round.  SCHSL 5A Bracket >>  

In the Class 4A Tournament, Catawba Ridge made a deep run into the playoffs shutting out Riverside and South Aiken 4-0 before meeting eventual 4A Champs, Eastside in the 3rd Round and holding them to a single goal.  SCHSL 4A Bracket >>  

Men's Tennis

Ian Drane of Nation Ford represented FMSD in the 5A/4A Tennis Individual Championships. SCHSL 5A/4A Individual Bracket >>  

Fort Mill and Nation Ford earned spots in the Class 5A Tournament.  Nation Ford won their first Match versus Byrnes before meeting River Bluff while Fort Mill played Dorman in the 1st Round.
