What a season to remember for the Springfield Middle School 7th grade girls basketball team! After navigating a hard-fought regular season to finish 6–6, this incredible group found their rhythm exactly when it mattered most. The Mustangs battled through the postseason to secure a championship victory, finishing the year with an impressive 9–6 record.
What makes this achievement truly remarkable is the starting point: most of the roster was entirely new to basketball and had never played a school sport before. From the first practice, the team focused on the fundamentals—learning rules, mastering positions, and developing the communication necessary to compete. Every practice served as a step forward, and every game became an opportunity to build the resilience that would eventually carry them to the trophy.
The championship run was a testament to the heart and determination of Brynn, Nyla, Olivia, Ketchlyn, Madison, Gracyn, Layla, Rhylee, Chloe, and Medhesvi, who never gave up on one another through the season’s ups and downs. This year also marked a significant milestone for Coach Malcolm, who led the program with unwavering belief in his first year as Head Coach. Alongside Assistant Coach Lewis, the coaching staff fostered a supportive environment where the girls felt empowered to learn and succeed. With strong leadership at the point guard position, the team finally found its rhythm in the final weeks, playing their most cohesive and inspired basketball when the title was on the line.
When asked about the season Head Coach Malcolm said, “This season was about more than the final score—it was about courage, growth, and the power of believing in one another. These young athletes proved that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.”
